Amino Acids & Mood Control

In her book, The Mood Cure: The 4-Step Program to Take Charge of Your Emotions —Today, Julia Ross discusses the powerful role of amino acid supplementation on mood. For bipolar disorder, hyperactivity, depression, stress and anxiety, a suggested trial dose of amino acids is 500 1000 mg. of L-carnitine in the morning and 3 to 5 capsules of phosphatidyl choline.

Many reports document this nutrient combination as powerful in slowing down the spontaneous rate of neuronal firing in the brain, and, in the bipolar, doing so as well as the drug lithium without negative side effects. Proper vitamin and mineral supplementation must accompany the amino acids. A caveat: people respond differently to amino acids so try them on a trial basis and ideally under a physicians care.
